HEIC converter
Convert HEIC to JPG without uploading a single photo.
iPhone photos are saved as HEIC — a format most Windows PCs and websites still can't open. Velacompress converts them to JPG, WebP, or AVIF right in your browser. Drop a whole folder, convert in one pass, and nothing leaves your device.
Why your HEIC files won't open
Apple made HEIC the default photo format on iPhone because it saves space — roughly half the size of a JPEG at the same quality. The trade-off is compatibility: plenty of Windows apps, older programs, and websites simply reject HEIC. The fix is to convert to JPG, which opens everywhere. The only question is whether you have to upload your personal photos to do it. You don't.
How it works
- 01
Drop your HEIC files
Drag in a single photo or an entire folder straight from your phone import.
- 02
Choose JPG, WebP, or AVIF
Pick JPG if you just need a file that opens everywhere. WebP or AVIF if you want smaller files for the web.
- 03
Get them back — nothing uploaded
Every photo is converted on your own machine and handed straight back. No server, no wait on your upload speed.
Private by design
Your photos are processed in the browser and never uploaded. Verifiable in the network tab.
Batch conversion
Convert a whole folder of iPhone photos in one pass, not one file at a time.
One payment, no subscription
Free for up to 10 files per batch. The Pro license removes the limit for a one-time US$30, with no recurring fee.
HEIC conversion — questions
Are my photos uploaded to convert them?
No. Velacompress converts HEIC entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Nothing is sent to a server — you can confirm it in your browser’s network tab. Your photos never leave your device.
What can I convert HEIC to?
JPG for universal compatibility, WebP for smaller web-ready files, or AVIF for the smallest files of all. JPG is the safe choice if you just need a file everything can open.
Is the location and other metadata kept?
No. The converted files contain no metadata: GPS location, camera model and the date the photo was taken are removed. That protects your privacy when you share the photos. The trade-off: photo apps will sort the converted files by conversion date, not by the date they were taken.
Can I convert a whole folder at once?
Yes. Drop an entire folder of HEIC photos and convert them in a single pass. The free version takes up to 10 files per batch; the Pro license removes the limit.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in your browser — Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari. There is nothing to download or install.
