PNG converter
Convert PNG to JPG without uploading a single file.
Screenshots and exports saved as PNG are often several megabytes each — too heavy for an email, a form upload, or a slide deck. Velacompress converts them to JPG right in your browser, a whole folder at once. No upload, and your files never leave your device.
Why your PNG files are so heavy
PNG is a lossless format: it stores every pixel exactly, which is why screenshot tools and design apps use it by default. For diagrams and flat graphics that works well. For photos, and for screenshots that contain photos or gradients, it produces files far larger than they need to be. JPG drops detail the eye does not notice and keeps the file small enough to send, upload, or embed without hitting size limits.
How it works
- 01
Drop your PNG files
Drag in the screenshots or exports you want to shrink, or a whole folder of them at once.
- 02
Choose JPG — or WebP to keep transparency
JPG is the most compatible choice; transparent areas become white. Pick WebP to keep a transparent background.
- 03
Get them back — nothing uploaded
Every file is converted on your own machine and handed straight back. No server, no wait on your upload speed.
Nothing uploaded
Screenshots often show private information. They are converted in the browser and never sent to a server.
Convert in bulk
Turn a whole folder of PNGs into JPGs in one pass, not one at a time.
One payment, no subscription
Free for up to 10 files per batch. The Pro license removes the limit for a one-time US$30, with no recurring fee.
PNG to JPG — questions
Why are my PNG files so large?
PNG is lossless: it keeps every pixel exactly as captured. That is ideal for editing, but it makes photos and full-screen screenshots heavy. JPG compresses photographic content much more aggressively, which is why the same image is usually far smaller as a JPG.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. If you need to keep the transparent background — a logo or an icon, for example — convert to WebP instead: it keeps transparency and is still much smaller than PNG.
Will I lose quality?
JPG is a lossy format. Velacompress encodes at quality 85, where the difference is hard to see on photos. Screenshots full of small text can show slight blur around letters as JPG; WebP keeps text sharper at a similar size.
Are my files uploaded to convert them?
No. Velacompress converts PNG in your browser using WebAssembly. Nothing is sent to a server — you can confirm it in your browser’s network tab. Your files never leave your device.
Can I convert a whole folder of PNGs at once?
Yes. Drop an entire folder and convert it in a single pass. The free version takes up to 10 files per batch; the Pro license removes the limit.
